Sports Meeting

Hey everyone!

This past week was a whirlwind; we had to cancel classes at the last minute on Tuesday and run to the local citizen's services building to expedite our residence permits before the deadline. We've had many complications with our paperwork due to the fact that some of Liz's paperwork has been in her maiden name. The Chinese do not change their names when they marry, so it has caused a lot of confusion.

We are fine now and we got it all worked out, so we'll be able to travel now. We're starting our 11-day Chinese National Day Holiday. Later in the week we'll be traveling to Nanjing, Suzhou, and Shanghai. We'll be sure to keep you updated about it.

This past weekend was Liz's birthday, which was a blast. She'll be writing a post about it later today.

In other news, our school had their 11th Annual Sports Meeting to commemorate Chinese National Day. The weekend started with a parade in which each individual class performed chants, marches, different routines, all with individualized costumes. It was a real pleasure to witness.

The day ended with races and track and field events for both students and teachers. The best way to get the impression of how it was would be to watch the video below:

We'll keep this one short because we're going to post again today, and the weather is absolutely beautiful today so we want to pick up some jaozi and hua cha and picnic in one of the city's many parks.

Zaijian from Zhangjiagang! Be sure to answer your phones if strange numbers call - it's probably us on Skype.

Brett and Elizabeth
